Murder Mysteries from other peoples' points of view

We produce Murder Mysteries for events, fund raisers and special parties. In our productions, we write the shows ourselves, combining improv basics and excellent character information, after which we cast and rehearse the show. We are always working on perfecting our process and would like to know if others out there use the improv form during their own productions, in theatre or mystery, and how it has worked for you. How do you use improv in your productions?
